Construction Details:

the shirt is made out of a cotton sateen, it was thick enough that i didn’t need a lining. there’s an invisible zipper down the front and a seam down the back + side seams. i’d like to take a moment to thank the madoka animators for making accurate seams in the character designs.

the skirt is the wrong side of a satin, just a basic pleated skirt which i screwed up on because i didn’t understand what it meant by “tacking down pleats” and i sewed them in the wrong place… the collar is made from the same material. the ruffle on the skirt was made using the tension method and just sewed on.

the black collar was a HUGE pain and i tried forever to pattern it until i finally found something that worked. it’s just one piece with the attachable bow. zipper down the front. this and the shirt are edged with bias tape.

the leggings/shoepant things are just REALLY tall bootcovers made out of wet look spandex. i really dislike the look of tights with shoes on top because homura actually has these crazy stupid shoepant things. but yeah, i took a base pair of black heels and made bootcovers that stretched up into leggings with a single seam down the back. my friend painted the diamonds onto the side with fabric paint while i was wearing the tights which resulted in a temporary tattoo for a few days.

the shield was… a frisbee…. it was really badly made i’m not even gonna talk about my method because it was awful and the strap fell off like 6 times at the con.

the soul gem was a cardboard base and the gem was made out of model magic with a coat of modge podge to make it look shiny, because i didn’t have experience with resin casting. it was attached with spirit gum. it looked alright but i have to make a new one if i wear this cosplay again anyway because my dog ate?? the old one??? oops

Personal Thoughts:

this costume looks easy but is deceptively hard and time consuming wow haha
