Construction Details:

I started by building a corset to support the mass of the hoop skirt I originally planned to built off it. The hoops skirt wad constructed to look like a rib cage but it also restricted mobility so I had to nix that idea for teh time constraint.

The corset, an interpretation on the straight jacket theme of the costume, was made to mimic nurse uniforms with red stitching. I cut my own steel for the corset as well.

The corset finished, I moved on to the under dress that went under the corset and the skirt. It was a high neck full sleeve dress pattern and I was able to add straps to it to further the straight jacket theme.

The skirt was pieces and no patter was used. I satin stitched the layered detailing and even though it is white on white; and I wish I had used black to make it stand out more; it looks amazing up close. I also painted wood blocks for the large accent pieces.

The skirt collars at the waist were hand drafted and I actually really loved teh way they turned out. I used super heavy interfacing to make them stay up. The waist cape was snapped in.

I also made a head coul from stretch material that the wig pieces attached to. Face make up came next and took forever. but it was sparkly.

I altered a mask for our performance as well.

Personal Thoughts:

This costume was crazy to put together but I had so much fun playing around it. Surprisingly it was super comfy to walk around in. I was however big and made sitting a bit crazy.
