About this Costume
Construction Details:
I sewed the dress from pink satin. The bodice is modified from Simplicity 7009. It's boned and lined, and zips up the back. The skirt portion was made with the power of math! I carefully studied reference pictures, there are 12 pleats on the front of the skirt. On either side 6 face towards the center, so that's where I started the pleats. I measured, marked and pressed the pleats in. I know it doesn't sound like much, but in all my years of cosplay I've never had to pleat anything! It came out great.

I made the petticoat before deciding where to hem to skirt, it's 3 layers of tulle with an elastic waistband. Side note- sewing tulle is awful!

Rose's screen accurate shoes are very expensive and hard to get, I opted to paint a pair instead. I started with a pair of red pumps, my husband sawed off the toes. I sanded, primed with gesso, primed again with white, then painted on 2 coats of pink with acrylics. The bows are vinyl painted to match. Black details are all sharpie, and I coated them with clear acrylic gloss. I was worried the paint would crack, but they held up really well even after dancing!

The earrings are made with Swarovski components and gold-tone findings. The brooch is not really close to the reference, but I like it. I made it with vintage pink ribbons, a shell button and silver heart. I think it went with the feel of the outfit.

The only part of this I didn't make is the jacket, which was a very lucky screen accurate ebay find. Usually Rose's clothing is very hard to find, but I lucked out and found it after only looking for about a week. I had been searching ebay for an alternate when this popped up, woo!

The sequins are from Distinctive Fabric, but this is my secret- it's just a tiny swatch! Once I finally decided which swatch to order they were out of stock. I ordered different ones from another vendor, but their bolt was water damaged and my order was canceled. Since you can only see a few inches of the sequined fabric anyways, I cheated for now and just stitched the swatch to the front.
Personal Thoughts:
I love Rose, and her pretty pink 50's dress was too cute to pass up. This isn't one of my favorite episodes, but it's probably my favorite Rose look.

Styling Notes
There's a great tutorial for styling her wig here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_eyjON-m-ek My base wig was a bit too long, so I had to do the back differently, but overall I'm happy with it.
Wig Review
I've been a fan of Sepia for a long time, I like their natural color blends.
