Construction Details:

The pattern for the dress was originally a pattern for a hooded sweatshirt. It was modified heavily. In the two mock-ups I made to perfect the design, I added length to the bottom, darts to the front and back, and cut the back to look like flippers!

The final product is made from faux suede and lined with flannel for warmth. The face details on the hood are a combination of appliqué, machine satin stitching, and hand embroidery. I even added whiskers! The teeth are beads I found the day before I wore this, hahaha. The spots on the back were all hand-painted.

Costume was paired with pleather leggings.

Personal Thoughts:

I decided to go as a Seal/Selkie this year for Halloween! I ended up wearing this costume to a Halloween event at the National Zoo in DC, and had a blast doing so!! I can’t wait to wear it again!

Just added some hair spray to keep the 'hawk up!
