About this Costume
Construction Details:
This costume is one of my most difficult to date. From the top down, the wig is a lace front from a local wig shop, styled up with incredible force. For the facial prosthetics, which were the most difficult part of this project, I cast my face and created a plaster cast of it so I could get the right fit. I sculpted the two pieces, the forehead/nose and chin pieces, out of clay, then cast a plaster mold of each, which left me with a two part mold for the gelatin. I used materials from FX warehouse and after many tries (thank goodness it was re-meltable) was able to cast the pieces out of a gelatin makeup mix purchased from their website. The makeup used after that is Ben Nye, and I also have yellow contacts in. The jacket is made of a suiting material, and completely patterned by myself. The collar was the most difficult part, and it's lined with an extremely heavy interfacing to keep it up. The jacket, due to time constraints, is not lined, however all the seams are finished off with a double roll hem as well as french seaming, stitched down. The red parts are a heavy cotton fabric that I found on sale. The prop is a PVC pipe with insulation foam attached and carved at the top, covered in paper mache and sprayed black. The pants are the same material as the jacket and the boots I already had.
Personal Thoughts:
This costume was a dream of mine, and it was a lot of work pulling it off and really working at it! This was my first time making a prothetic piece from scratch for a cosplay and I learned a lot, and i'm honored to say that this costume along with cancerously's Sandy will be featured in Ger Tysk's Breaking All The Rules: Cosplay and the Art of Self Expression, coming out soon, pre-orders now available!
