About this Costume
- Construction Details:
-
Top - Used Mccall's pattern 6097 as a base. This pattern was my second attempt at making the top. The first one I made was too short and I goofed on the red part. Second time around turned out much better. The top needs some fixing up after wearing it.
Red skirt - The skirt is basically a huge circle skirt broken up into panels. This involved quite a bit of math so I can’t remember all the specifics. (I’m horrible with numbers.) The length of the skirt was about double the length so I could add the ruffles. The ruffles are made with elastic half the length from the middle of the skirt to the end of the fabric. (Since there’s the black overskirt I didn’t see the need to make ruffles all the way up the skirt) The elastic was stretched out as far as it could go and sewn in with my sewing machine.
Black overskirt - Just a super big circle skirt that I cut to the shape I wanted. Its held in place by velcro
Gold Details - All hand painted with Jacquard paint. The "eagle" designs were drawn in Adobe Illustrator and then sized up and tile printed. Those were traced on with tailor's chalk and then painted. (Thanks Letterform class for finally putting all those line drawing practice to use!)
Pipe/Ring - The pipe I bought from amazon. I chiseled off the raised details it had on it and then painted it. The ring is made from sculpey. I hope to make a better on in the future. - Personal Thoughts:
- This costume was made by math, magic, and lots of episodes of Star Trek Deep Space Nine.

- Wig Review
- My second Beatrice wig. I like it a lot better than my other one. Its a little roomier and the overall style is better. I also have a bad habit of wearing the rose on the wrong side of my head.
