About this Costume

I had trouble deciding on what her outfit was exactly supposed to be due to her arm covering up part of her outfit in the only full body reference pic (I was unsure if she had a romper with a cape, or a dress with a cape). After much debate, I decided to make it a dress with a detachable cape. The dress was the only thing I relied on a pre-made pattern for. I used a 4-way stretch black fabric that I had in my fabric bin, and it took several tries to get it to fit to my body the way I wanted it to. The cape is made out of the same black fabric. I drafted the pattern myself. The pattern consisted of: 1 full newspaper sheet for the main rectangle, two large triangles, and a small rectangle (so the cape connects). After sewing the pieces together, I made my own trim, which was made out of a slightly stretchy red fabric. I treated the trim like bias tape, and tried to hide as many seams as I could. I made 3 yellow ribbons out of a stretch yellow fabric and sewed them to the cape (they need to be remade, though). The cape was also lined before the trim and ribbons were added. The choker was made out of the same black fabric, with velcro. The gem on the choker is made out of hot glue and painted with metallic crimson acrylic paint. The gloves are made out of the same stretch yellow fabric, and I drafted the pattern myself. To create the pattern, I had some old Hot Topic gloves to trace, but I gave some extra seam allowance, and modified the pattern to have the appropriate length on my arms. It took 3 tries to get this pattern right. Before I sewed the gloves together, I added the bias tape. I slip-stitched the bias tape closed after sewing the first side. For the boots, I re-used my Sabrina boots, but removed the old acrylic paint, and painted red paint on the spots of yellow and white paint that refused to come off. I made the ribbons around the boots and added velcro at the ends so they would connect without having to attach them directly to the boots. Sadly, I made them too long so they kept slipping off, so I plan to remake those.
- Personal Thoughts:
- This character is from the Gameboy TCG. Making this cosplay was kind of a challenge due to the fact that there is only ONE full reference picture ever (and part of the outfit is covered up by her arm), and no one else has cosplayed her (that I know of, I tried looking online) so I was unable to see how other people did the outfit. Thankfully this costume was not too hard to make, just slightly frustrating due to the lack of references and messing up on the gloves a few times.
Wig Details
- Styling Notes
- 2013: I attached two curly clips in Apple Red from Arda. I ran my fingers through the clips until I got the volume I wanted
- Wig Review
- I'm thinking about taking a flat iron to the curly clips and making them look wavy, similar to how I did my Junko wig.
