About this Costume
- Construction Details:
-
My outfit is heavily based on Ladylawga's design, but I altered a few things, like the seams on the vest and tights instead of kneesocks. It's really fun making lolita for the first time!
The petticoat is purchased and supper full! *A* (Well, I guess it helps that I've got these big ol' hips underneath, fluffing it out even more!). The skirt is a very lightweight faux linen. The red and brown embroidery took approximately 54 hours of work-time. O_o My next step is to add the moon runes in clear or iridescent thread.
The vest is weaver's cloth and fully lined. I made matching bias tape and changed the seams from LadyLawga's design, adding piping.
The blouse is from a New Look pattern (I'll fill in the number sometime when I remember). The pintucks were killer (that's what I get for embellishing someone else's design!). It was my first time doing pintucks. I think I figured out a few tricks, but I don't think I'll be adding them to things just for fun.
The shoes are a lucky find at the thrift store. I wanted a lower, chunkier heel, but these were the right color and fit, so CLOSE ENOUGH.
The jacket is corduroy and fully faced and lined. Lapels are my eternal enemy, so don't look too closely at them. The buttons on the vest and coat were painted by Leaux. - Personal Thoughts:
- I super love these designs by Ladylawga on tumblr! When I saw my friends were planning a group, I really wanted to be Bilbo, but s/he was already claimed, so I put off making the outfit until now~

- Styling Notes
- My first time heat styling! So far I've put curlers in, then finger-combed it out a bit. The next step is to work on the bangs some more, tease it and fill it in on top, and tidy things up in general.
- Wig Review
- I'm loving how well it took the heat styling. Since I've never tried before, I was very nervous, but it's great~
