About this Costume
- Construction Details:
-
I bought the shirt from Goodwill because we were running out of both time and cash before the con, but someday I'd like to make it myself. I cut a new neckline for the shirt and hemmed it. The corset was made out of lightweight cotton and is boned. The back has grommets and laces up (not technically accurate to the movie, but what the hey, it looks cute)! The skirt is two layers; the bottom is a solid teal casa satin and the top is casa organza. Both are sewn to an elastic waistband. For the bow, I used more of the solid casa and made two rectangles. I pinched them together in the middle and bound them up together with a folded strip of the same fabric. To keep it in the wig, we slid a barrette/bobby pins in through the strip of fabric and into the wig.
- Personal Thoughts:
- When I was a little girl, I had this Ariel doll with the Kiss The Girl outfit, and the skirt had two layers to it. There was a sheer one and then a solid one underneath it, so I decided to take that idea and make it life-sized for my friend who is absolutely obsessed with musicals and all things Disney! It was so much fun making this for her and seeing her interact with kids outside the con was absolutely heartwarming. I really want to do more Disney girls in the future!
Wig Details
- Styling Notes
- Literally whipped this out of the bag and stuck a bow in the back.
- Wig Review
- I was helping a friend babysit her table in the Artists' Alley one year, and she actually got someone to pay a dollar to play with the curls on this style of wig for a minute. It's that bouncy and awesome! :)
