I love peacocks and peacock colors - they are beautiful and graceful and so lovely. When fabric shopping with a friend, I happened upon some peacock blue colored sequins on clearance and bought out every pack they had. I was inspired to make something featuring peacock colors and feathers, but didn't come up with a definite idea until I found a lovely picture of a 1920's style girl with a teal green dress and matching jewelry. So I decided to alter it a bit and go with a 1930s style dress since I wanted something a bit more dramatic and art deco.
While in New York for NYCC in 2012, I stopped by the Fabric District and bought a lovely sequin and bead applique that I wanted to use for the back of the dress. Using those colors and the sequins as reference, I bought several yards of peacock blue silk faile and used a few patterns to make a bias cut dress with slight train. After sewing on the applique, I began sewing on the feathers and sequins in a spray pattern.
The necklace and peacock headband were ordered on EBay, and the bracelet and earrings were hand made by me. I already owned the wig and ring. The shoes were painted from black to gold using Jacquard Lumiere Paint in Sunset Gold. Overall, I love the feeling I get when I wear this dress. It is a very glamorous outfit and I have received numerous compliments on it!
