Construction Details:

One thing that I really wanted to do with this costume was try and make the skirt flare out. I ended up adding a hoop to the bottom for structure, while adding extra volume at the back of the skirt (underneath) by adding a fake bustle that was pretty much a tutu folded over a couple times and sewn into the waistband. The white border is a silk chiffon that I hand pinned in place to give it more of an unstructured, flowy look.

There's a couple things I'd like to update for the future, but for a first attempt, I'm satisfied with how the costume turned out.

Personal Thoughts:

I absolutely loved Mawaru Penguindrum when I first saw it, and know I needed to cosplay Princess of Crystal (or Super Himari, as I like to call her). Although Princess of Crystal is depicted as a very rock 'n' roll badass, I really wanted a softer, cuter, more Himari-esque version of her, so I opted for faux fur for the hat, and more matte blacks for the majority of the costume.

I ended up not being able to finish the arm bands and neck piece on time, so I'm claiming this is the "Episode 24" version... but I'll eventually finish those last pieces!

The base of the bodice was kindly sewn by my good friend Emma, while the rest was made by me.

Styling Notes

I didn't need to style the wig at all, except to pin the bangs back.
