About this Costume

I made this for my dear friend King (who was my wonderful Travis to my Holly/Sylvia) for AX 2013 this year and holy moley, where do I even start with this outfit. I used a men's Simplicity pattern and altered the front section extensively to fit more to the character's design. From there, I made a mock-up using muslin to sew the pieces together to make sure everything is working all nice and dandy.
I pieced a bit of shell portion of the coat and then did the massive mosaic cross design from hell, which involved an hour and a half of drawing the squares in proportion to the back followed by a couple of hours applying the paint on. When that was done, I sewed the rest of the shell portion of the coat and added on the fancy flowery buttons for his coat sleeve. Although they're a plain gold in the game, I thought it would be a nice touch to have something special. The lining was made with your standard acetate material and the facing used some leftover red satin in my fabric closet. The "X" markings on his coat were made using embroidery thread (doubled) and using a LOOOONNG stitch to complete the look.
Once the lining and shell got stitched together, I have a larger version of the flower buttons that I'm going to use for the front of his jacket. They pretty much look like the ones on the sleeve but quarter sized as opposed to the penny sized ones I used.
The t-shirt's design was painted on using a violet acrylic paint mixed with some textile medium. I then painted it on a shirt where I sketched out the design and that took three layers to reach the desired opacity.
The earring, necklace, and sleeve bead are made out of Sculpey while the scarf (not pictured yet) is made of a medium weight wool with a black gradient dye in addition to the same cross design on the back of the coat (except in black, haha).
- Personal Thoughts:
- LONG-ASS COATS. NEVER AGAIN. CRYING INTO THE SUN.

- Styling Notes
- Yami-no-game is responsible for styling the wig and she is also using a couple of black and silver extensions from Epic Cosplay to finish off the wig. I'll update this portion once she finishes it.
