About this Costume
- Construction Details:
-
Patterned the dress off a base Cosmode pattern but had to make alterations to the collar, sleeves, and front piece in order to be true to the design. The dress is made from peachskin (which is horrible to sew and frays if you look at it and squishes everywhere out of place but looks beautiful when it's all together) and each piece is flat-lined with broadcloth for added drape. The bodice was also interfaced with lightweight p/p interfacing in order to add stability for the tucks. Oh god the tucks. I made three front pieces using different methods of interfacing before I got the tucks even and I was satisfied with it.
The collar and cuffs have a thin black strip decorating the edges, they were sewn in as a flange (a folded bias strip kind of like piping but without the cord inserted) and they were nuts to get even. When I have a chance, I'm going to rip out the collar and cuffs and replace the flange strip with piping made from 00 size cord, because the flange tends to squeeze out on curves and is really hard to get an even line with. The hem has 1" horsehair braid sewn in for volume, and I wear a petticoat underneath for more poof.
The apron was patterned and sewn together the morning that I left so it's kind of big... I'll take it in if I feel like it but I think it's kind of cute at the same time. The tie was also made at like 4am on day 1. We didn't actually sew the buttons on since they're placeholders... They're all safety-pinned in.
This pattern was way harder than anticipated due to the flange strips and the peachskin but I'm mostly satisfied with how it came out! Once I make the fixes it'll be perfect. - Personal Thoughts:
- Being an idol is really fun and surprisingly comfy! Also Makoto is my favorite character and I'm really glad I could somewhat pull her off. ;_;

- Styling Notes
- Cut the bangs in the hotel room as I was wearing the costume... I'll put the ahoges in later.
- Wig Review
- I know Makoto's hair is parted the other way but this wig was like the only one in stock on Arda when I made my order and I'm not sure if I care enough to buy a new one.
