About this Prop
- Personal Thoughts:
- My first insulation foam prop!
2 layers of 3/4 inch pink insulation foam from Home Depot cut out with a hand saw, glued together with Loctite spray adhesive, sanded with an electric hand sander and by hand, gesso-ed, spray painted silver, and hand weathered with acrylics paint.
there was a long rectangular piece cut into the top of the blade that I inserted a wooden dowel into about 10 inches, and glued in, then bondo-ed over for extreme hold. The wrapping of the handle was done with brown leather strips glued with E6000. The top of the handle is just layers of thick craft foam cut out into circles and hot glued on, with craft foam bands going around the dowel.
The swirl details on the sword are simply craft foam.
I made a big mistake in the painting process, I thought 2 layers of thick gesso would be enough to protect the foam, but there are some parts where the spraypaint ate away through the gesso. I've learned my mistake very well haha. To cover up the eaten away parts I weathered the sword to look battleworn and used, and it works pretty well.
All of the cutting of the foam was done by State_Alchemist, my bf. :D
