About this Costume
Construction Details:
The dress is made out of peachskin which I ordered online. The color looked a lot more accurate in the photo, and unfortunately it wouldn't take to the dye at all when I tried to tint it (even though it's 100% polyester and I used polyester dye), so I had to live with it. I actually made this dress in a really short amount of time, due to a few technical issues. Aside from the dye, the pattern somehow took about two weeks to get to me, even though it was just coming from norcal.

The dress was patterned by qnng, mailed to me, and then graded up. The bodice pieces and the sleeves were interfaced with a light interfacing to help make the tucks easier to sew. The entire dress is flatlined with broadcloth to increase weight and improve the drape, as well as finish the seams. Although it means a lot more sewing, I really like the flatlining technique! The skirt has 1" horsehair braid to help it poof out more, and it was worn with a petticoat for even more volume.

The collar and cuffs are made of sateen. The lines are flanges, which is like piping with just the casing, not the cord. It required very precise pressing and sewing! The tie is made with sateen as well, the headband is made with peachskin, and the apron is made with poplin. The buttons are safety-pinned on, since they're the wrong size and (for me) wrong color. I need to fix a few things on this before I wear it again, but overall it's a fun outfit and surprisingly comfortable!

Wig Review
Although the color is listed as "sandy blonde", it's definitely more of a gray. I didn't want to go with white or silver, because I felt like it wouldn't exactly go with my skintone, as those are both cool colors and I have a warm undertone. I also wanted a more "natural" look!
