The pattern for the top is the same as my Touko top but with some modifications to the sleeve to make it slightly less billow-y. I may take it in more but I'm honestly kind of lazy. The skirt is self-drafted.
All the fabric for this I found in my stash! The body fabric is a really dark blue twill and the gray fabric is a gray twill I bought from Joann's a while back. I attempted to tint the blue into a more teal-ish color to match Peko's top color but it was so dark there was no real chance. The gray I tinted with midnight blue and black RIT dye in order to get the really dark gunmetal gray that Peko has. I also dyed a bit of white twill into a blue-gray color in order to match the color of the line on her skirt.
The top was easy to assemble but I hand-basted all of the bias tape onto the pieces before sewing down to make sure they wouldn't shift. The cuffs are sewn on the inside by hand for a finish without any visible stitching. The symbol on the breast was hand-embroidered on day 0 during the drive.
The skirt was easy to pattern and construct, but I wasn't able to hide the zipper inside a pleat due to some flaws in the fabric that I had to hide underneath pleats. In any case I'm still pretty satisfied with it.
The shinai bag is made of some strange semi-waterproof twill. I painted the dragon on the front by hand and winged the pattern, but it came out kind of big so I'm planning on remaking it with a new pattern before AX. - Personal Thoughts:
- I love Peko and this is the comfiest costume besides the wig which weighed 2 pounds and needed 14 hair pins to keep on my head. Why.
Wig Details
- Styling Notes
- Cut down an Eowyn as a base wig and took apart some pigtail clips for the braids. I french braided the pigtail clip pieces once I got the clips out, sewed up the netting, and sewed them onto the wig.
- Wig Review
- This wig is so heavy that I need a neck brace to wear it for extended periods of time.
