Construction and design notes

The corset is made of taffeta and lined in cotton and is boned with plastic boning. Actually I ran out of boning so I had to use zip ties! It has a jacket zipper in the front to take it on and off, and it laces up the back. The corset is trimmed in glass bead trimmings I found. The under dresses are made of a peach chiffon and a pink crepe fabric. The chiffon dress is gathered and tacked up to create the draping effect. I also sewed strings of pearls to the bottom to add to the swag effect. I then took scraps of both underdress material and ripped up and burnt it with my hot knife to give it that rugged grunge look. On the top of the chiffon dress I did do some hand beading with purple crystals. The bra on one side is covered in lace. The cup of the bra is covered in faux pearls and crystals that flows up into the pear strap. Leggings and glove are made from a stripe knit and detailed with lace. All the flowers on the outfit were hand dyed because finding flowers in the color I wanted was impossible! The head dress is made from a headband base with beaded ribbon covering the top. Chain and lace with butterfly charm come around the front. More flowers are added to the sides. There are still a lot of things I want to add and do to this costume. I made it in a few days before the show so I wasn't able to complete all things I wanted to.

Design notes

This is another outfit inspired by artist Emilie Autumn. With her newest album Fight Like a Girl, her style and tone changed slightly and I wanted to reflect that change in this design. One thing I love about Emilie is that she is able to make broken beautiful. The idea of making something beautiful by conventional standards, and then making it worn, tattered, broken, dirty and broken but keeping what makes it beautiful and powerful intact is truly captivating. So in an attempted to capture that I mixed elements of seemingly beautiful with tattered and worn. I wanted to look like a beautiful mess. I believe there are still a few things I can do to help achieve that effect better, I'm satisfied with it at it's current stage. Like my other EA costume, I wanted to make sure to included important elements such as the corset and stripped stockings. In the asylum your corset is your armor and you wear it with pride! This time around I pulled my inspiration from her current stage outfits, imagery created in songs "If I Burn" and "What will I Remember?", and faerie/fantasy costumes.

Personal Thoughts:

Went to a another Emilie Autumn and wanted to make another costume to reflect the mood of her new album and stage outfits.
