About this Costume
- Construction Details:
-
There was just so much work put into this costume in the span of 4 months. Working for most of the evenings after I got back home from work and the weekends leading up to Fanime Con 2013. I combined a lot of different patterns to make the top and the skirt. Used a prom dress pattern for the princess seams of the top, which I added chiffon ruching to make the texture pop. Used the facing of a v-neck cheerleader top pattern for the gold stretch vinyl backed with interfacing and bridal satin. Used gold bias tape for the edges. The shoulder feathers are attached to a piece of fabric that snap behind the collar. I added rhinestones to cover the places where I stitched in the snaps. I added gold bias tape to the top and sewed in a chain of AB Swarovski Element pink hearts. The heart is a stand-in craft foam piece until I get the final hearts finished. The gold lace trim at the bottom of the top matches the chocker and the wristlets is from LA Fashion District. The beaded trim at the bottom of the top is from JoAnn’s home décor. The armbands are made from the same gold stretch vinyl as the collar and chocker and closes with Velcro. I gathered strips of organza with a 2:1 gathering ratio to the armbands. The left arm band has a small Miss Bunny cabochon on top of a pink ribbon, because bunnies are hot! Wristlets are also made from the same material as the collar and armbands with addition of the white triangular piece that connects to the fingers. I added in gold metal spikes that are screwed in from the back. I will add more spikes to the costume later because Panty is a bad-ass like that. The rings are a gift from my Stocking and also a spiked ring from Forever 21. The skirt is made of organza at the bottom which I hand gathered in a 2:1 ratio. The top of the skirt is made of brial satin and Heat ‘n Bonded gold trim. The belt with hearts, sashes and chains is separate and attaches with a snap on the side. I wanted to add more pink to the costume hence the pink draped sash in the middle. The chain is substituted with a pink crystal-pearl necklace from Forever 21. The sashes that hang down from the pink hearts are made from white chiffon and gold bias tape. The leg straps are separate from the sandals are gold ribbon trim from JoAnns. The feathers on the ankles are glued to a foamie piece and that is glued to a band of gold stretch vinyl with a Velcro closure. The shoes are from Forever 21. Both the high-heel platform stripper shoes and the gold gladiator sandals. The flats are for walking around the con and the heels are for photoshoots. The wings are another major piece of construction that I will explain more in detail in the Prop section. But the jist of it: base is foam-core poster board with industrial strength Velcro connected to the harness. The harness is like a backpack with garter. I constructed a parallel circuit of 96 pink LEDs using interfacing and ProWick. I was in a hurry to solder all the LEDs to the circuit before realizing that I needed to insert 96 of the 200 ohm resistors. #COSPLAY CREDIT: Thanks to Sean of AzHP Photography for drawing out the correct circuit for me. And thanks to my dad for helping me cut and solder the resistors in place. So I spend a day and a half cutting the circuits and inserting the resistors. The wings are then connected to a central battery pack that plugs in once everything is assembled. The wings turn on with a push button switch in the back. The feathers were sorted, cut and trimmed with the help of my Stocking and my bf. The were then glued to the wing base on top of the LEDs with a cover of interface that had cut out holes for the LEDs to shine through.
- Personal Thoughts:
- This series is lude, crude, in-your-face nasty, and I absolutely LOVE it! Even after all the hype about it has dyed down, I want to do this costume justice. My Stocking and I wanted to put our own flavor to the costumes so we will deco it out to the fullest with embellishments, sparkles, and awesome!
