About this Costume
- Construction Details:
-
The clothing portion as pretty simple. The top is an A-line dress pattern that I just drew the wings on the bottom and went from there.
The bloomers are the based on the same gathered circle skirt idea as my Madoka skirt, but a little longer in the middle so I could sew the sides together. The hoop skirt and petticoat I used for Madoka are just shoved down the pants.
The shoes were Dansko clogs spraypainted yellow but the paint didn't take and I'll torn it all off so I can find a more permanent solution that doesn't make me thing they're going to rip apart mid-con.
The staff....as a pain in the butt. It's a bunch of simple concepts that just didn't want to play nice with each other. Like I said, I'll go more into that - Personal Thoughts:
- If I never make a white costume again it will be too soon. >_> SUCH an unflattering color!
A lot of things went wrong with this costume but I'm pretty happy with how it turned out overall. I'll do more detailed notes on my facebook page probably (https://www.facebook.com/RaiphinCosplay) on how I made the staff and styled the wig and such.

- Styling Notes
- I am not good at styling wigs. This was really my first attempt beyond poofing the bangs. I cut the wig down with the ambitious idea of using the parts I cut to make wefts if necessary but my attempts at sewing my own wefts were...laughable, to say the least. So I bought some and used them instead. The pigtails are wefts cut down and rolled around each other until the base was about the size of a nickel and then sewn together and then sewn and anchored to the wig in 4 places. I styled the antenna and bottom with a heat iron and then holding the hair in the desired shape as it cooled. I wish I'd done that before coating it in ineffective hairspray, but maybe that helps it somehow. You live and learn. ^ - ^;;
- Wig Review
- I thought the skin top of the Eowyn would make styling parts easier. What it made NOT easier as adding wefts all over the place. >_> But now I know.
