About this Costume
- Construction Details:
-
Having seen so many knife-pleated skirts for Vanellope, I was determined to construct the skirt in a way as to best mimic the Reese's paper wrapper from the movie. I found the perfect brown fabric, and went from there. I definitely learned a lot about circle skirts, math, and why one must be *really careful when cutting out exact curves (I was not...) All in all, I'm very pleased with how my skirt turned out. And I'm very pleased with using bias tape as a hem as well!
Starrys helped me dye the sweatshirt and the mint of the leggings in the same batch in order to make sure they matched. It was definitely a puzzle piecing the leggings back together, but they turned out quite nicely, and I'm really happy with them.
My mother helped me make all the hair candy (except the two gummy bears which I commissioned from a lovely lady on ebay) over Christmas break. I had a great time working with her, and I love that I could share some costume construction memories with her too. My anal retentiveness required that I actually make an inventory of every piece of candy in her hair, the color, and the placement, and replicate each one. Reality, though, refuses to make my head as big as hers, and I actually cannot be *that accurate so as to actually fit every one of the pieces on my human-sized head, so I have to settle for close enough when I pin them all in the wig.
Lastly, I think my favorite detail has to be the licorice on the bottoms of my boots. So far, I haven't seen anyone else attempt to add the candy to the bottoms of her boots, and I tried something kind of out there for my own and I really like how they turned out.
Okey dokey, that's all. If you have any questions please send me a message about anything, and I'll do my best to answer! - Personal Thoughts:
- I needed this movie and this character exactly when it came out in theatres. It's going to sound super cheesy, but little miss Vanellope helped me find a piece of myself that was missing for a long time after going through quite a lot. Because of that, I really owe a lot to this character, and subsequently this cosplay.<br />
I enjoy this costume, and I hope you do too!
