Amon dagger: I liked the look of his second dagger, so I went with building that. Carved out of foamcore, 2 layers of rigid wrap and a layer of paperclay on top, and a couple layers of spackle and sanding to fill in the gaps and bumps. The gem base and the fin on the hilt are foamie.Sealed with a couple layers of mod podge, and then hand painted with acrylics. The gems are actually clear, as I painted the undersides with the djinn insignia first then went over it with red Lumiere textile paint.
The outfit itself was pretty simple. Coat is a high quality muslin, the shirt is just a blue t-shirt I cut the neckline into. The sashes are two separate pieces (both kona cotton), and being as I couldn't find consistent images of how many gold stripes were on the narrower one, I went off a fanart for my reference. The stripes were all hand-painted with gold Lumiere textile paint and are on both sides. The harem pants were made following a fantastic tutorial a friend found for me, using a stretch cotton twill (and are super comfy!). Overall I am very pleased with how this turned out, as I think it is one of the most well constructed costumes I've made :) - Personal Thoughts:
- Alibaba is definitely my favorite character from the series, and one I feel I can relate to a lot. After seeing many of my friends completing Magi costumes I wanted to join in on the fun, and of course I went with making Alibaba as my first costume from Magi to do :)
