About this Costume
Construction Details:
The jacket was originally made from a stretch poplin, but I quickly decided it was way too thin and would not give me the look I wanted. the poplin became the lining and the outer shell was made from casa satin (wrong side).

I agonized for a very long time over finding the right gold color. I wanted something with some shine to it that was very obviously GOLD - not yellow or brown. in a last-ditch attempt I wandered around Joann's with swatches of my black, purple, and white fabrics, and ended up finding a lovely gold satin. I generally use the wrong side when I use satin, but as I said, I wanted some shine in this costume. I was afraid it wouldn't look good, but I'm pleased with the results!

all the gold bias tape was made by hand. unfortunately I learned how to do proper mitered corners literally the day after I got back from my first con wearing this. SIGH. the gold details on the middle of the sleeves and the hat were done by adhering the satin to Heat N Bond and "cutting" it out with a soldering iron. instead of buying gold buttons I used cover buttons so all the gold details would match.

the purple is a gorgeous suiting I found at Joanns, I was so pleased with that color. the black for the cuffs and hat detail were Wrinklease leftover from making two Yasogami uniforms.

fortunately I started this costume around Halloween, so I was able to get a cheap witch hat to use as a pattern. lazy? maybe. I just couldn't find a single fuck to give about patterning it myself. I ended up using the original brim of the hat and covering it in the purple suiting. the rest is held up by craft foam, which isn't attached on the inside so that I can store it flat when I'm not wearing it. it ended up being too small for my head with the wig on, so I sewed some thread loops into the seam that I can put bobby pins through.

the skirt and boot covers were patterned by me and made from the wrong side of a metallic black spandex. (I felt bad wasting the potential of the metallic side, but the matte finish of the wrong side was perfect.) the skirt was patterned by simply wrapping a bunch of saran wrap around my ass and cutting it in half. the boot covers were a little trickier. I used saran wrap and tried to make a pattern that would have the seams running down the sides, but it didn't work out. I used some leftover knit fabric and used that to drape around my leg and the shoe, and that ended up doing the trick. added bonus - there is only one seam! I wanted to add a piece of fabric along the bottom so they can slide on and off, but due to crunch time I ended up just hot gluing them along the sole of the shoe. whoops. fortunately adding in the gold detail worked just about as I had thought it would.
Personal Thoughts:
I wanted to cosplay Nine the moment she was introduced in the Phase 0 light novels, but I resisted since no one would know who I was. THEN I DECIDED TO DO IT ANYWAY. I generally don't get recognized but it feels all the more rewarding when I do!

just as when I cosplayed CC's yukata from the first episode of Code Geass, I think doing an obscure costume like this goes to show just how much I completely adore a series. BlazBlue is pretty much my favorite video game series - I love how much there is to the story and reading the Phase 0 light novels basically cemented that for me. for that reason alone doing this costume was rewarding for me.
