SOO... the bodysuit is made from some black spandex I had on hand and some white I picked up from FabricsRUs. In order to create the pattern, I had a friend help cover me in seran wrap, mark where all of the seam-lines should be, cut me out of the seran wrap, and then I cut all the pieces apart on the lines we marked and used that as a pattern for my mock up! I had to keep my bobbin thread and top thread in check to make sure one was black and one was white so the stitching didn't show through in the final suit. All the flat gold trim was hand sewn own, except for the collar where it was glued.. and the gold pleated trim along the bottom of the shorts, arm things and on the shoes I got from Michaels. The collar was made by following a tutorial that daveyderp made which used styrene to make it. However, I was having SO much troubling glueing the fabric on to the stryrene that I decide to jst paint it to match the vest instead. The vest was patterned to be all one piece, it's lined and the bias tape was hand made. I made a patch/applique of a little heart that goes on the back of the vest. The shoes were a black suede that I had to paint 372745 times with fabric paint in order to get them to be white. The mask was made ot of styrene, painted, and has white fabric glue to the inside of the eyeholes. The choker is craft foam with black fabric and the trim glued onto it.
- Personal Thoughts:
- this. costume. was. SO. DIFFICULT!!
I really underestimated how much work was going to go into this at first, but I'm really proud of what I accomplished! I had to learn a bunch of things for this costume: seran-wrap pattern making to make the bodysuit, sewing layers and layers of spandex in different ways, working with styrene for the first time, painting shoes that were suede and not patent leather or anything like that, etcetcetc. btu in the end I got to KIRABOSHIIII~~~~!!!!
