About this Costume
- Personal Thoughts:
- I've always been a fan of Arthur Conan Doyles Sherlock Holmes stories, and didn't anticipate loving the movie so much! When we decided to do Sherlock Holmes as a group cosplay for the midnight release of the second movie, Jon and I decided to do Dr. John Watson and Mary Morstan, and our friends Will and Houkje did Holmes and Irene Adler.
We bought the bulk of the fabric for this dress from the fabric district in LA at $2 a yard (I so love that place!) and the fake fur we got at Hancock Fabrics. I made the skirt and top using a simplicity steampunk pattern (soooo many knife pleats, yargh!), and I borrowed the underskirt for bulk from my friend Brittany.
I wore a generic corset underneath for shape, and the bonnet I made using a straw hat that I cut a section out of, and attached some velvet and tied off with lace. The sandy blonde wig was a gift from my friend Sandee.
We took the photos at Travel Town in Griffith Park in Los Angeles (which was a pain, when I accidently brought my broken lens, DOH!). Anyhoo, we're planning on wearing these to the midnight release, I can't wait!
