Construction Details:

Drafted everything myself because I'm a crazy person. The shirt alternates between Alova (purple) and corduroy (grey). The pants are a softer corduroy. Lab coat is cheap cotton, with a lining of the same fabric. Shoes are flip-flops with the straps cut off, then covered with shoes made with the same corduroy used for the shirt, but turned inside-out to hide the ribbing.

Stitches are done with black bias tape for the horizontal lines between seams, and yarn for the actual stitches. The thinner stitches on the shoes are made from embroidery floss. After I was finished I went back and put some fabric glue around the edges so the holes wouldn't fray. I'm scared to count how many stitches are in this outfit but I made it through the whole first season of Glee while doing them, and then some. 9_6

The screw was a whole other labor of love. Screw is a type of dense styrofoam covered in sheets of polystyrene, then hot-glued around the edges. It came out a little messy, but it looks like it was welded, so I actually like how it came out. I bought a big noisemaker from party City, carved out space for it in the body of the bolt, and glued it in so that the grip of the noisemaker came out of the center. The grip was then glued into the stick-part of the screw, which was done the same way the actual screw was. This was then wired to a thin headband through the wefts in the wig, and the other side was attached in the same way. The result: The screw clicks when you turn it and the headband keeping it on doesn't show. :D

Personal Thoughts:

Probably the biggest labor of love ever. So many stitches, so much bias tape. Ugggggggh. And yet this is still one of my favorite costumes I've done.

Styling Notes

I actually didn't style the wig at all, just ran a headband underneath it to attach the screw to. I need to trim the bangs though, they're really long. o_o

Wig Review

PERFECT color for Stein, no styling needed, and it fit my gigantic head perfectly. I love Arda, man.
