About this Costume
- Construction Details:
-
All parts of the outfit that required sewing were done by me. The hardest parts of the outfit were sewing all the points on the red; I've come to realize that I hate sewing mitered edges.
I learned how to use EVA foam for the armor! It's a single piece with one side seam held together with velcro, but the boob darts were sewn. It's sealed with Mod Podge, spray painted a steel gray, and some iridescent white acrylic paint was watered down and painted over the gray to give the armor a metallic look.
I tried to be accurate with the shown seams for the red parts so there's only one seam: one center back seam on the red top and red skirt! It was my first time using snap fasteners for an outfit although using sticky velcro totally saved my butt in terms of all her accessories. The fingerless gloves were from my Rita Mordio cosplay. - Personal Thoughts:
- I tried out a lot of new construction techniques for this outfit and I am rather pleased with how it turned out. Kind of derped on the wig color and styling, but whateva. I wish I had my own Pina!

- Styling Notes
- I do not do much styling to wigs aside from trimming the bangs but I went out of my comfort zone in terms of wig styling for this one. I bought a pre-split wig with defined bangs from Taobao that had clip on pigtails with them. I did not like how the wig looked on its own so I did some major re-hauling in terms of styling it to how I wanted. I undid the pigtails (something you are not apparently suppose to do!) and did them up again so that the base wig itself fit on my head better. I trimmed and thinned out the clip-on ponytails like crazy as well. The ribbons are held in place by the claws of the clip-on ponytails.
The round rings in the hair are actually clear plastic Christmas ornament baubles! I cut them to the appropriate shape (a bit like a crescent moon), painted the inside red, and used some sticky velcro to keep the rings closed. The way the claws clip into the wig with the rings around the area where the claws are makes the overall wig look more like her hairstyle in the series so I am glad all my random experimenting seemed to be successful!
