About this Costume
Construction Details:
The yellow dress is sewn from Casa Satin material. The skirt is created with yards of black tulle (as is the back bow and front flower designs) and yards of purple organza fabric. The back of the skirt is actually over 60" long, and can be bustled up beneath the yellow dress with snaps so it does't drag on the floor, but can also be left down for photos. The yellow neck ribbon and yellow shoulder straps are simply 1" yellow ribbon sewn in place (the bow on the neck ribbon is sewn in place and the back has a snap for ease of on/off). The wig had the bangs cut and styled and the hair buns were added and styled by myself. All jewelry (necklace, earrings, anklet) were hand-crafted by myself using gold embroidery thread, gold metal beads, pearls, and yellow clay for each moon (which was painted gold after it had been baked). The moon on my forehead is painted on.
For creativity sake (and to make the back of the dress look more interesting) I've sewn pearls along the bottom of the purple layer. I think it picks up on the pearls of the jewelry and looks really fantastic. I love being able to give my own personal touch to a classic costume.
Personal Thoughts:
I love this costume! Luna is one of my favorite characters from Sailor Moon and I was thrilled that this came out so wonderful! I hope to one day enter this into a competition.
