Construction Details:

From the moment I set eyes on her new design I wanted to make it. Harley is my fav comic book character and any version of her is wonderful and awesome no matter what XD
This costume was a real adventure, mainly due to the bootcovers. The design was over complex and trying to make them fit right and look like that was a real challenge.
I had bought the fabric for this costume back in the summer of 2009, when the game was first released. I found a nice deep red and deep purple pleather and bought a couple yards of each. It sat in my fabric bins till September 2012, when I finally bucked up the nerve to make it. Jay had started working on his Arkham City Robin and I thought this was as good as ever to start making the game versions of Harley.
So the boots, gloves, gauntlets, choker and corset are made of pleather. The white top, skirt and nurses hat is made of a white sateen. This costume was entirley made of self drafted patterns. I have become quite good with creating bootcovers, but these were easily the most difficult bootcovers I have ever tackled. There is a 22 inch zipper running up the back of them to allow ease to get in and out of them. I bought a pair of platforn slide on shoes from a thrift store that are removable from these boot covers. The gauntlets also have zipper near the wrist area to allow a closer fit.
The skirt I cut out one long rectangle of fabric and pleated it into a curved waistband. I serged the bottom edge and pressed the pleats for a crisp look. There is no zippers in the skirt it slides right up over the hips. The top was made a bit bigger and I added ballon style sleeves and put purple pleather arm bands on it.
The corset is fully lined and instead of using boning I used industrial zip ties from Home Depot. Seriously, thicker zip ties work like steel boning! They do not warp or bend out of shape and they keep to your shape perfectly! I used antique rivets to hold the straps together and the 2 straps around the bodice together.
I used a red leather string to lace up the corset.
The Waraden's badge was just printed out and put into a badge holder and clipped onto my top. The cane was one found at a halloween store. I painted the top blue to look more like the Warden's cane.
I am really happy with the turn out of this costume. After waiting so many years to make it was definatly worth it!

Personal Thoughts:

I love the character and knew I would make this one day...that day has come!

Styling Notes

The wig I used is a Arda Chibi in Ash Blonde. I straightened the pigtails with a steamer and tied the pigtails up higher. I parted the bangs in the center. I know Harley has no bangs falling free from the pigtails but I hate that look. I prefer a fringe of somesort to hide my natrual hairline, especially with an updo.

Wig Review

Arda never fails with quality. The wig is very thick and full of hair. I love the ash blonde cause it is more natural looking.
