About this Costume
- Construction Details:
-
This dress was supposed to represent a move innocent "Girl on Fire" via looking more like a soft candlelight then a blaze like her first interview dress. In the book it describes it has having a slight shimmer when she moved and gathering right at the top of her ribs without showing off her figure to much. Its also sleeveless.
From there I let my heart wonder.
I choice a wig with no bangs to use because I couldn't find one description in the book that described her having them or her hair getting in her face. I wore grey contacts and very little makeup (as described).
The dress was a McCall's pattern. I used a soft yellow satin with a sheer soft yellow chiffoun over it to make it look ever softer. I put a layer of chiffon with little bits of glitter in it between the yellow layers so that when the light hits it right it look like it glitters a bit. I used the matte for the skirt and the shoulder straps and the shiny side with no glitter layer for the bust. Just to break up the pattern a bit. I hand stitched in some light yellow beads. Some with a more matte finish and others that we crystals the hit the light nice. I finished up the costume with some yellow gold leather sandals (as described). I choice a more gold, for the slight glitter and because most yellow sandals I could find that were leather were really gross and cheap looking. Lol. I liked the simple yet almost roman look of the gold sandals I found. - Personal Thoughts:
- Wow, this book series.
I'm horribly dyslexic. So much so its kept me from going any farther than book 3 in Harry Potter. But I managed to completely eat up these books. I love that the main character isn't perfect, I love dystopia futuristic settings and I love political type plots about human nature. SO MUCH LOVE! The conflict she goes through before the 2nd interview in the book meant so much to me, I literally finished reading the book and went out to buy fabric. Like right that second. <3
I read this book after the movie was released in theatres, but before it was released on DvD. So I was completely uninfluenced by the movie when I made the costume. Completely based on the book description and the character description (minus a few points for respectful purposes)
Wig Details
- Styling Notes
- I trimmed it a bit and hit the skin cap part with some heat so that it would set it where I wanted it to stay.
- Wig Review
- This was a sample Galadriel I got from when I worked for Arda. If I could, I would buy every basic wig color you needed in this wig. Its wonderful to have the length to work with and ability to part it where ever you want.
