About this Costume
Construction Details:
The tutu itself is 15 yards of hand-gathered black netting. I gave it ten layers instead of four because I wanted it to look thick and feathery. Chira wanted to use a layer of silver sparkle tulle for her Odile Tutu, so I got some gold for Kraehe so we could both have that additional sparkle. I dagged the edges to make it look more feathered. The plate and bodice are both black bridal satin, and I hand sequined it all on the flight and the entire night before the con. I unfortunately was not able to finish sequining and beading because I had too many school obligations, but I had already worked too hard on the costume and was so looking forward to wearing it that I just really needed it to look PRESENTABLE before the con because I was GOING TO WEAR IT, DAMNIT, so I just did the outline of the designs on the plate. I'll fill them in and outline them with beads later. I glued the feathers on the inside of the bodice because I didn't have time to hand sew them all, but I will probably sew them down when I continue work on this costume. The tiara was made from beading wire and some larger round gold beads and red teardrop beads.
Personal Thoughts:
MAHOU SHOUJO STATUS. I wore three layers of varying kinds of false eyelashes to get the closest-to-perfect Princess Kraehe eyelashes as I could, even though I'm not usually one for wearing falsies with costumes. I'm really glad I got some darker red contacts, though, because they really made the look. I felt so good about myself wearing this and got so many compliments. I know it's not fully completed yet, but I am definitely proud of this, and I'm so glad I finally did it because I've been dreaming of making this since before I was actually a cosplayer.

This costume was actually cheaper than I would have expected--ordering all the materials and accessories cost me about $150, and I think about 42 hours has gone into the process so far, though I definitely plan on finishing the beading and sequining in some free time.
