About this Costume
- Construction Details:
-
Moxxi was surprisingly difficult. I thought this would be an easier costume to finish in a few weeks, but it was actually very time consuming and labor intensive. I hand made every part of this costume and it was quite a bit of work. The fabric for the jacket was hand painted by me, and I drafted the pattern myself from scartch. Figuring out how to get the booty flaps(coat tails) to curl right was a feat of engineering on my part. I heat molded hoop skirt boning and hand sewed it into the trim.
The hat was my first attempt at millinery. I used three layers of felt, satin, and interfacing to give it the stiff appearance and decorated it with appropriate feathers and Queen of hearts card.
I had a lot of fun decorating everything and painting the accessories to have the dirty, cell shaded Borderlands look. I was also proud of how the make up turned out since it was my first time applying white face paint to myself.
The spats were also made from scratch, then I threw red paint all over them to resemble blood splotches. This is a very fun costume to wear, but always requires a lot of work to get into! - Personal Thoughts:
- After decided I couldn't finish what I was working on in time for New York Comic Con, I picked something that's been on my to-do list for a while. I spent about three weeks of hard work to finish this costume in time. I really loved Moxxi in the Borderlands DLC. I love how much of a loose canon she is. She's right on the edge of sanity, but is still able to control everything around her. I was really digging the whole Mad Hatter/ Burlesque theme to her outfit so I really wanted to make it.
I always have a blast wearing this costume and acting in character. Moxxi is so much fun to act like! I also got the chance to march for C2E2's float in the Chicago St. Patrick's Day Parade in 2013. It was so cold, but all us cosplayers had an amazing time! I had people in the crowd trying to hug me or hive five and scream out "Moxxi! Moxxi!" It was such an amazing time!
