About this Costume
Construction Details:
I consider this costume to be my magnum opus in construction. I began by redesigning canon just slightly, since the rest of my group also took large liberties with theirs (following fanart and self-designs, and adding their own touches). I followed the suggestions of a tutorial by tumblr user yaexrae for the mantle, so thank you so much for giving me the idea! My process essentially was: 1) draft mantle 2) draw design on with chalk 3) trace design on tracing paper with sharpie 4) cut out and pin to heat'n'bonded velvet 5) cut and iron onto mantle 6) satin stitch entire design to the mantle. This took the most time, obviously. Subsequently, I lined the mantle in stiff interfacing and then black fashion lining, serged the entire bottom hem closed, then folded it up and attached the sheer striped fabric, which trains about 2 feet behind me. The shirt is what contains the turtleneck silhouette (which is different from the original design, where the turtleneck is part of the mantle), and has a satin-stitched front line and princess seams. The bell sleeves were hand-drafted based on when I made God Tier Rose. The skirt is made of three successively longer tiers of striped fabric, which was originally black/white and dyed with several RiT baths. It is elastic and fits snugly under the shirt, and the hem is just slightly too long so that my feet do not show when I walk. I designed the wristlets to reflect Dolorosa's fate to watch her son die and be taken as Dualscar's slave, and eventually Mindfang's. Horns were sculpted by the beautiful tumblr user ceriene and painted by me. I found the "bling" on the costume in Pacific Trimming to add a touch of femininity and greenblood status to her design. The buttons are difficult to see in photos, but they contain shapes vaguely reminiscent of the Cancer symbol.
Personal Thoughts:
This is the part where I try not to cry on my keyboard because of my feelings about Team Signless and the ancestors' backstories. Also where I try not to blubber about all the feelings I have for my beautiful group of besties, my beta kids (RT, Vikki, and Skwinky).
