Lemme just say... it's hard to find a pattern for a niqab that I can understand. Most have notes in Arabic. I literally had to drape and tack down.
There are a couple of things here that are a departure from reality.
An abaya in real life would NOT be as clingy as Dust's. I tried to meet it in the middle -- a realistic abaya on me should have been bigger, but it's also not ridiculously tight.
I also brought the hem up a little bit so that I could walk around more freely -- I think it would be better sweeping the ground a bit, but then I'd have people stepping on it.
One final note - a real abaya might be made from cotton or linen. I wanted a low-sheen satin, as superhero outfits always have a sort of glossy appearance to them. I bought duchess satin based on the description of it being a low-shine, lightweight satin. NOPE. It was stiff! That made the entire process a bit more of a challenge. - Personal Thoughts:
- Superhero cosplay isn't something that lends itself easily to a large body size. I grew up watching the X-Men cartoon and wanted to do some kind of tribute; it was just recently that I came across Dust and her backstory. I am very much interested in women's fashion and clothing with regard to other cultures, so this was both enjoyment and a learning experience.
