Construction Details:

A lot of the pieces to this costume were snagged from other costumes I had already made. The goggles and belts were from my Duela Dent costume. The white corset and stripped bloomers were from my Wayward Victorian Girl costume. The gloves were my mother's. The leggings are ones I already owned. The boots were borrowed from a friend.

The striped coat is made from the same cotton stripe fabric as the bloomers. It's not lined (only because I was lazy) but is still finished off with casing. The collar is made from pink crinkle taffeta that just has a rolled hem edge. The brown waist cinched is made of brown stretch pleather, lightly boned for shape and closes with pink velvet ribbon. The charm belt is made from a bunch of nifty charms I found at Micheals and some of my resin casted charms. The hair piece is a cute pink flower cameo I found, added some crystals, feathers and coiled gold wire. There are some gear charms hanging from it. Necklace is made of lace, ribbon, some gears and heart crystla beads. Cane is an old current rod. lol.

Personal Thoughts:

There was a steampunk ball in my area that I wanted to attend. I've always wanted to do a steampunk outfit, so it didn't take much convincing to get me to go. Of course like any costumer, you never have the perfect thing to wear on hand, so you make something.

I used a lot of pieces from costumes I already had to put this together so my light color scheme was already kind of chosen for me. I didn't realize until half way through making the jacket, that pastel colored steampunk outfits are kind of rare and hard to do! I decided adding some warm brown here and there (wig, corset, shoes) to help tone it down and give it more of that steampunky feel. I will also say, that I was the only one there in shorts/bloomers. Since this was my first steampunk experience ever, I didn't realize that I made such unstandardized steampunk outfit. Oops. But you know what? The best thing about steampunk is there are no set rules or super defined style. I can interpret the fashion style however I want, which makes these genre of costume so much fun! The people at the event were very inviting and loved my version of steampunk. That type of community is so encouraging, and I can't wait to make another steampunk outfit!
