About this Costume
Construction Details:
Because I wanted to do the apron Anna has in series 2, I tried to only use references from S2. I tried to match seams as best as I could, but black on black is sometimes too hard to tell. Most seams are French or flat-felled, with a blind hem. I used linen or linen like fabrics in an attempt to be historically accurate. I had to pattern most of the dress out by hand and draping. The bodice was hard with the pleats, gah. I made all the buttons with button covers. The lace on the collar and apron is stuff I got at the fabric store, and is the one place were I gave into convenience over accuracy (other than blue contacts, but I cannot wear contacts as it is). I don't have a sewing machine that does embroidery nor the patience to do it by hand, so. Hair frill is made from muslin and secures with bobby pins I sewed in. I'm using my real hair, because styling a wig for this would kill me. My natural hair color's a bit too dark, but close enough. I use a Hairagami to roll up the mid section of my hair into a bun, and then drawn in the sides into the center and then wrap around the bun, securing with hairpins and hairspray. Minimal makeup, just some foundation, eyeshadow, and mascara.
Personal Thoughts:
I have given my life to Downton. No seriously, this has quickly become my most favorite TV series ever. And Anna's my favorite character because she's kind, smart, sassy, and determined. Being head housemaid though means that she doesn't get as fab as outfits as the Crawley sisters, though, but despite loving Mary's red dress from the Christmas Special, I had to cosplay Anna.
