About this Costume
Construction Details:
I worked together with Hichan (Sailor Moon in the photos) to make these costumes come to life! We utilized the patterns from Hichan's Lolita magazines for the collar and chest armor.

Body base (lycra, satin):
From the inside out, the base layer is pretty much a double layered lycra low cut swim suit. I had to double layer it since it's otherwise quite sheer. Hichan found an awesome tutorial where you could roll lycra to make the tubular waist band which is directly attached to the body suit. The pleated satin skirt was sewn by hand and one hell of a lot of pinning.
Chest Armor and collar (pleather, ribbon, satin):
To get some material contrast, the chest armor was made with pleather and has a zipper along the side seam. I designed Mercury to have swappable parts so that I could later do Dark Mercury. So the collar is attached by velcro and the front bow is attached by huge snaps to the chest armor. The strips on the collar are heat and bonding strips of 4mm wide ribbon.
Bows (stiff interfacing, Peachskin):
The bows were made using extremely stiff interfacing since the TV show has their shape and stiffness being similar to that of a thick obi. Once sewn together, the bows held their shapes incredible well!
Gloves (Lycra, vinyl):
The gloves were made of the same lycra as the body suit. The vinyl arm bands were sewn with rolled lycra stuffed in them.
Accessories:
The gem was cast using clear cast resin and blue dye in a bottle cap mold that Hichan found. The tiara and earrings I purchased from Catzia online. The Sailor wrist band is the official merchandise sold by Bandai.
Boots (vinyl):
Using my favorite 3M transfer adhesive, I directly built the boots onto old shoes and added a zipper for ease of getting in and out of them.
Personal Thoughts:
Always loved Mercury in the anime and adored her in the live action version even more! This was an absolute labor of love! Mercury Star Power MAKE UP!
