About this Costume

We were pretty accurate to the same materials used on the more realistic Jem artwork (that was seen on the doll boxes). My pink wrap dress is microdot pink spandex. The belt (which needs to be taken in, I lost weight between the time I made it & then wore it) is silver snake skin with hand cut out blue iron on applique. The fringe is 2 spools of silver trim. Added my pink sparkly fishnets over my pink tights since the artwork has EVERYTHING on Jem sparkling like crazy.
The GIANT lashes didn't have the effect I wanted. They turned out droopy despite how I set them. I need to buy lashes with stiffer material. Oh well, I'll just not wear them ever again, lol. My eye makeup was LimeCrime's Magic Dust in hot pink, mixed with Ben Nye's Final Seal. That bright-ass 80's makeup was going NOWHERE.
Oh! I almost forgot to mention, my synergy earrings were made by PinkClayMonkey & they TOTALLY light up when I touch them. - Personal Thoughts:
- JEM AND THE HOLLA-HOLLA-HOLLA-GRAMS. GURRRL YO WEAVE NEEDS MO HURR SPRAY HOLD UP. By the time we took this photo our hair had settled down considerably, I promise it was bigger than this (except for Aja's, her hair was pretty 80's accurate in it's bigness)
My friend Kelly (Pizazz in our group) asked me to be Jem for her group at Dragoncon, & Jem was one of my favorite characters when I was little (followed by Rainbow Brite) & I love pink wigs, so saying no was pretty tough, lol.
Everyone has always told Brandy & I that we look related, so her being the Kimber to my Jem worked out. So glad to have her as my little sister, since she's also one of my oldest friends ♥ Germaine was SO perfect as Aja, I can't get over how awesome her wig was.

- Styling Notes
- My original wig for this costume came in the day after I got back from Atlanta (Hong Kong lost it) so I bought a New Look Farah from my local costume shop since it had the perfect layers, & steamed the curls out of it, back combed the CRAP out of the top of it & then poured a can of Aquanet on it. Then we went & took our first set of photos outside in the humid Atlanta weather & that kind of killed the "bigness" of our wigs. Oh well.
- Wig Review
- Thank whatever holy deity there is that New Look wigs aren't heat resistant.
