Construction Details:

Blue velvet lined with red paisley brocade with self-made velvet piping trim. The collar and cuffs also have gold paisley brocade (matches the red) that has been heat-n-bonded and trimmed with handsewn sequins to form the leaves. I found the most perfect buttons at G Street right after we submitted our resumes, so I lucked out there. I also got sick the Tuesday before the convention and it was so terrible - like legit I was forced to stay in bed sick. Cape was all made in one day, so it's still missing some pieces. The blue is a gorgeous $60/yard faux fur with suede back (I had a fabulous coupon from G Street that saved me!), and fully lined with white faux fur. I really had no idea how to make this ridiculously long cape with only a yard and a half of the fur though (even with the coupon, I didn't have the heart to pay for more than what I was already paying)

Personal Thoughts:

A costume and skit that Minachiko and I have been planning for at least 4 years now. Although we only had a month to confirm costumes, make them, create and choreograph a skit, practice and perfect the skit, figure out stage set up and make props, I'm still really proud of what we did. Even though there were a lot of tears, staple-gunning in the convention parking lot, and twirling practices next to the elevator at 10 the night before. Thanks so much to everyone who supported us, especially Ash who was super supportive and helped with everything! And I'm sorry to all the people who tried to read the manga after watching out skit (Minachiko and I have a very selective memory and only remembered the awesome 10 pages about Ludwig going crazy). Thank you Homestuck cosplayer who actually went out of your way to tell me that you enjoyed our skit -- it meant so much to hear that someone actually though it was decent enough to compliment. Thank you to the people sitting next to Minachiko's friends who, although did not know the series, realized that we were telling a story. And thank you to everyone who watched our skit and got upset that we didn't even place in top 10 -- not just because you are our friend, but because you thought our skit was good enough.

Styling Notes

What i really wanted was Arda Wigs' Benny in Dark Brown...OH WAIT. THAT WIG CAME OUT A MONTH AFTER THE EVENT! Like legit, when I was figuring out what wig to get for Ludwig, I wanted to do real!Ludwig hair, so I figured that it would be similar to BBC Sherlock (then I could use it for that cosplay as well). I felt so heartbroken cutting off so much of the wig that I couldn't bear to cut it anymore, although I'm still going to need to.
