About this Costume
Construction Details:
Oh lawd. sorry for the lonnnnng drawn out entry guys. This costume was intense.

Wig -
Oiran hairpiece was made with a foamboard backing with hard felt put over it so wefts could attach to it better. Wefts were found at a local wig store. small strips were glued and then used fabric glue was used to glue it to the felt. I then used got 2 b freeze spray to keep it down. Later, I attached the two pieces and added more wefts to cover up the added area. Old flower was attached as well as some decorative pieces.

Kimonos -
Used simplicity pattern 4080 for all the layers. Inner red/white layer does not have any sleeves but is lined. I used casa for both purple and red/white kimonos. Purple kimono was hand painted using jacquard paint. ALL of the kimono is painted, not just what you can see. Kimono was lined as well. White kimono was done twice. First time using casa, second time using cotton sateen. Hand dyed for the gradient. First time I painted the flowers on, second time I cut out over 700 petals using heat n bond and satin taffeta. I like the second version better :)
Obi was made using satin taffeta and hand painted with jacqurd paint. Bow has craft foam to make it stand up (2nd time around).

Head piece (second time) was made using insulation foam and coated with super glaze. I used rub n buff to add the gold color and trim. Head pieces are attached using a headband that is glued to the net of the wig and there are nails that were glued to the headband and then the pieces were glued onto the nails to give it stability. All of the other pieces were made using craft foam, poster board and lots of patience :)

This costume was finally competed in about 6 months time. I remade it after the first wear which was at Anime Matsuri 2012.
