About this Costume
Construction Details:
Since I got to design this, I sort of took creative license with the white silhouette of alpha!Rose and stuck to the only definite thing you could tell about her design: a clingy skirt. I found a pattern I thought would be flattering to my figure, and picked colors and motifs similar to her velvet squiddleknit dress, which I always thought was the most up Rose's alley amongst all of her outfits. I wanted to look a bit like a classy, fancy famous author out on the town, which given the popularity of "Complacency of the Learned" in the alpha session, would be a given. I picked lace for the capelet that had roses in it, gold roping and purple knit to evoke the velvet pillow, and wore my existing pumps. I used my real knitting needles rather than the Thorns of Oglogoth.
Personal Thoughts:
So when Vikki and I realized…hey, we are adults, we are 28 and 23 years old respectively, and wow, we sure do like to cosplay 13-year-olds a lot. Why don't we use our age to our advantage and cosplay our respective ectosiblings in the alpha universe as adults? AND THUS IT WAS. Kacie was fantastic enough to become gray on Sunday of Otakon to participate in a StriLonde massacre, and Vikki and I had a great time coming up with our interpretations of what Rose and Dave would wear--Dave, a promo t-shirt for his SBAHJ movie, and Rose, a classy famous-author red carpet dress based off the velvet pillow. Basically, even if canon designs come out (which I'm fairly sure won't be revisited), I really enjoyed getting to take creative license here while still addressing a canon scene.
