Construction Details:

Let's start with the top: the moon was made of styrofoam, which I put paperclay on to give it a bit of dimension and a little more durability. This was attached to a PVC connector (painted silver like the moon), which was then attached to a 1/2" PVC pipe. The moon also had a blue glass beat hanging from the end, which was from Hobby Lobby. The staff was painted with blue Americana brand paint, and then painted with a double coat of black glitter paint. The bottom was made out of a wooden piece and wooden bead from Hobby Lobby, which were then glued to a wooden dowel I cut in half and wrapped with strips of craft foam, which I fed into the PVC pipe. The edge was sealed with a bit of paperclay to make it less sharp, and decorated with interconnected crescent black moons.

This could also break down to half its size, so that it could be used as a scepter as well.

Personal Thoughts:

This was a staff/scepter of my own design made for my friend's Princess Luna/Nightmare Moon cosplay for Fanime 2012. I was originally going to be Princess Celestia and have a matching Sun Staff, but sadly it fell through at the last minute. Despite the work involved in making this, I had a lot of fun and will probably finish my Celestia staff sometime :3
