About this Costume
Construction Details:
This costume was not as easy to make as it looks. The gown itself was a combination of 3 different patterns that I smooshed together. I used casa collection fabric from Joann fabrics. There is about 14 yards of fabric in all that make up the dress. Every piece of fabric was serged to minimize fraying. The bodice itself has 3 layers, the top layer is appliqued together and was a devil to line up properly, the middle layer made of duck cloth for stability, and the inside layer was satin lining. The bodice is also supported with steel coil boning that I cut and capped myself. It is fastened in the back with grommets that I hand pressed. I also made an appropriate set of undergarments to fit the time period of the dress so corset, hoop skirt (did not make because it was cheaper to buy), and pantaloons. The wig was a much longer wig that I cut and styled, I choose not to cut the bangs as short as the character because I didn't want the wefts of the wig showing underneath. The fish crown and necklace were made of sculpy, sanded, painted gold, and bejeweled. The attifet headdress was made of 14 gauge wire, pearls were added, fabric was stretched and hand sewn on and shaped slightly into a heart. The ruff was something I made up completely because I couldn't find any good patterns for it. The ears had a base of plastic lattice that was shaped properly then covered in fur. They were then hand sewn into the wig itself (which was not easy). I used brown contacts for my eyes and fake fangs. I also bronzed my skin to appear more cat like. =^.^=
Personal Thoughts:
Love this costume, need to wear it at another convention =^.^=
