About this Costume
Construction Details:
There were few reference pictures available for this costume, it was as though no one wanted the costume duplicated. I was then left to fill in the gaps with the book and my imagination. It was my first time using 4 way stretch vinyl and it was a challenge. The pants clung to me like no other material and did not breath at all, but they did stretch. The Jacket I made from 3 different patterns. I made 3 mock ups before I was happy with the fit. I did not make the jacket as skin tight as the movie version because my partner and I decided to present these in a dance skit so I wanted to be able to dance freely without a corset restricting my movements. It turned out to be a very comfortable jacket and I look forward to wearing it as an everyday thing. It is fully lined, the top lined with spandex to stretch with the spandex snake skin fabric and the bottom is stiffer because it is lined with duck cloth and satin. I also put steel coil boning for extra support and to hold the shape of the lower "corset" part. The double collar and sleeve ends are wired to make the fabric stand out as it does in the movie images. The wig was one that I bought from arda.com. It was called Lea and had a built in part with 2 very long braids on either side. I re-braided them and styled it to look like the helmet of braids from the movie. The capes were my design but were put together by my best friend. Several pieces of red, orange, and yellow sheer fabrics were hand tacked together to give the illusion of fire and then led lights were tacked in to add to the glowing appearance.

Styling Notes
I unbraided the original braids and rebraided about 20 smaller braids, then hand sewed them up into the helmet hair style of the movie
