About this Costume
Construction Details:
So, I love my first Robin costume, but it's been a long time since I made it and there were some things I had wanted to improve.
I started with fabrics for this one. I found an awesome brushed twill for the dress, which was a little bit of a pain to work with, but it's so soft and nice to wear, I can forgive it. The overdress was a lucky find of a black that looked darker than the black of the dress. Yay.
I began by making a petticoat this time, from a black cotton. It helped tremendously with keeping the shape of the skirt.
The skirt was made by modifying a wedding dress pattern. I actually cut it to include a train, like my previous version, but made it possible to bustle it up, which is how I've been wearing it for cons. I also remembered to include pockets this time.
The shirt I am not totally happy with, since it caused me more than a few headaches to get things to the point they're at, but I wish I had tweaked it a bit more. I do like that I was able to make it without a collar seam, as per the stupid reference.
Still trying to get everything to sit correctly (and, the bigger problem, stay that way) but I hope it can all be resolved before the next con.
Personal Thoughts:
Still tinkering with this version.

Styling Notes
Since extensions do not come in this color and my base wig was pretty thick, I cut out about a third of the wefts from the back, and used those to fill in the back and hairline. A good number of those wefts were short, with the hair only about an inch long, and they worked really well to fill in the back part without adding extra bulk to the handlebars.

I still want to fiddle with things, like smoothing out the pigtails, making the bangs a little thinner, the pigtails more even, and the whole thing maybe a little bigger, but I'm not too displeased with it.
Wig Review
It's a nice enough base wig. I like that it's pretty thick, doesn't have a definite part or skin top, and can be pretty malleable.
