About this Costume
Construction Details:
Unfortunately, there's nothing too shocking or fancy about how Battler was made. It's a 3-piece suit, so slacks, dress shirt, vest, tie, and jacket. Everything was lined, even the pants, just to make sure that the color wasn't weird if one part was lined and another was not(since the color of the suit was so light to begin with). The suit itself is lined and also has 2 layers of mid-lining to make it thicker and give it a more suit-like look.
The gold eagle was done by making a vectored version of the graphic in photoshop/illustrator and then printing it out on our vinyl cut machine, then heat pressing it with a t-shirt press. I tried an earlier version where i appliqued the eagle and it just didn't look as sharp. Dress shirt and vest and tie were all pretty standard menswear patterns, adjusted to fit the cosplay. Wig was styled loosely rather than try to do each individual spike on battler's head.
Personal Thoughts:
Battler was my half of our competition piece for World Cosplay Summit 2012 at Katsucon. He was definitely a challenge. The entire thing was made from scratch, except for the shoes and socks. Though I haven't sewn very many suits before, I was pretty happy with how he turned out.
