Construction Details:

The costume itself was pretty normal on the difficulty level. Kimono, even lined kimono, are not that hard. The wings on the other hand... O.o;;; And then they broke during masquerade rehearsal. Maybe I shouldn't have attempted an 11' wingspan for my first pair of wings.

I did finally improve it for Japan Expo 2013 for the Yoshiaki Sadamoto gathering. I didn't have to tear up the wings much at all beyond removing the remnants of the old back frame. The new frame is a PVC pipe structure. It's considerably bigger than the old frame, so I did need to remake the obi (I added a tsuke-obi bow while I was at it) and I reworked the back opening of the obi to go over the wings.

I'm still cleaning up a few things (the sleeves, attaching hooks and eyes on the obi), but it's actually wearable now.

Personal Thoughts:

Wiiiiiiiings........ frickin' huge wiiiiiiiiings.

Styling Notes

The wig itself did not have much styling other than cutting the bangs. Most of the time spent was in creating the ears and sewing them into the wig. The ear frame was created by cutting up and taping a cereal box into the right shape. They were lined with tan felt on the inside, and a purple velour that I colored to match the wig with black dye-na-flow. I then sewed them into the wig

Epic makes high quality wigs. I do like them for longer wigs; easier to detangle and keep detangled.
