About this Costume

Shirt, skirt, and shoes were found at Goodwill. The necklace is from a shop in the UK, actually. Apparently plain, silver, inverted crosses are harder to come by around here. :P
Krieg is made up of a bunch of interesting things. I made two templates, one for the base piece and the other for the fabric pieces. The base of the body is foam core board bent and glued together to form the "rocket" shape. There's also another foam core piece glued to the bottom that has a hole in the center for the handle and smaller holes on each of the corners for the "spokes".
The handle is a wooden dowel that runs the length of the body. The umbrella handle shape was cut at 45 degree angles on the dowel, turned, and then glued back together. The spokes are just smaller dowels. The paint job was kinda irritating, but I was in a rush. I'm probably going to go back and sand and repaint the handle especially.
The top spike has a base of another small dowel that was poked out through the top of the foam core base piece. The actual spiky bit is just a six pointed star cut out of foamie, bent, and then painted. The spiky "base" is just a tube of foamie with six points on the bottom.
The fabric wrapped around the main body is some black ripstop nylon from Joanns. I sewed all of the panels together and glued down the seam allowance onto the body trying to match up the seams. The opening on the fabric piece was just folded in and glued down.
The eyes were the most difficult part, but I think I did pretty well. They were styrofoam disks that I cut into pseudo-turtle-shell-looking things. I put in a lip around the edge so that they could be glued down to the body. Three layers of yellow acrylic paint, some orange paint for the pupils, and then three layers of Mod Podge to seal it. I may go back and paint some gloss over them to get them super shiny, but they look really nice in photos already.
Krieg was definitely the most work for this costume, and I was determined to have him look good! I was very, very paranoid about something happening to him since he was kinda fragile. Although, that did lead to some funny "KRIIIIIEG... my preeeeeciousssss!" moments. - Personal Thoughts:
- I found out about Skullgirls late last year, and I've been following the site and the YouTube channel since then. I actually suck at fighting games, but the art work and the premise for the story were really awesome. I had still planned on getting the game anyway, just for those reasons.
I asked my cosplay partner-in-crime, Angel, to do a Skullgirl with me, and she ended up being an amazing Valentine. We still need to get "fighting" pictures together!
I kept waiting for the game to come out, and then ended up stopping paying attention while I worked on this costume for C2E2, which means I totally missed all of the release announcements. -_-; The nice people who recognized my cosplay told me about it though!
I mostly chose Parasoul because it was easier to put her costume together. I do like her character, but I would like to try Filia or Cerebella sometime down the line.
Wig Details
- Styling Notes
- Straightened out all of the curls with my straightener (which was incredibly easy and the wig was super cooperative), trimmed up the front bang pieces, and evened out the layers in the back. This color and style work out perfectly for Parasoul.
