About this Costume

This outfit was not terribly intimidating, but I wanted to really think it through! I'd say I was brainstorming it for a year before I actually started sewing haha. Anyway, as I usually like to do- all the patternmaking is done by me from scratch. The jacket is just cotton woven which I interfaced heavily to keep its shape. The dress is all one garment, and is the only thing I'd change sometime. I'd rather make the skirts on the bias for better draping, but I didn't buy enough fabric to get it done in time for AnimeBoston, so I just did it straight. It still looks good, but would be better on bias! The red bra is a separate part under the dress. The black band is spandex with the side seams reinforced with plastic boning to keep the shape. I think I'm finally getting better at making gloves since the last time I made a pair for Sailor Jupiter... but i still hate doing it haha. I actually almost broke my thumb while making these gloves... that's another story :p
- Personal Thoughts:
- I... am just... so happy ;u; Ryoko is one of my all time favorite anime characters. She stole my heart when I first fell in love with the Tenchi Muyo series in middle school. She's a fierce space pirate bombshell, but also a totally silly cutie that'll blush at Tenchi's glance. Not to mention she's naked and drunk pretty much all the time, and has an adorable cabbit for a spaceship... well, you just can't beat Ryoko. Anyway, 10 years later, I completed this dream! And I couldn't be happier that my boyfriend was my Tenchi!

- Wig Review
- I'm proud to say this is one of my first intense wig styling experiences! I had tried to make Ryoko's wig a year or so ago with a Cosworx Punky. I sucked pretty badly at wig styling, and the Punky was too frizzy to work with, so I shelved it for a long time. About a month ago, I decided to scrap it and go for the Jareth with some newly learned tips from friends, and I'm SO GLAD I did! There is certainly room for improvement, but I'm really proud of this wig. c: yay!
