About this Costume

Like all Madoka outfits, this costume was deceivingly difficult. The only parts of the costume that were simple were the thigh highs, arm bands, gloves and wig. The cape was difficult to pattern because of the way it drapes over her shoulders, rather than falling straight down her back. I decided to make the cape a separate piece (which closes with hook and eyes in the front) and I put the decorative collar over top. The collar is a piece of craft foam covered in white spandex and gold craft foam decoration and closes in the back with velcro.
I patterned the bodice from scratch and made all of the box ruffles by hand. There are no closures - I just pull it over my head. I added little gold heart buttons because I thought it was suitable for Sayaka and matched the diamond buttons close enough. :3
The skirt was originally laid out as a regular pleated skirt, which I fit to myself before cutting the diagonal (which I did while it was laid out on the floor, in its pleated form). I added the white strip afterward, which acts as binding along the bottom. The boots started off as ankle boots, which I chopped up. I extended the width along the ankle using triangle wedges and covered the whole thing in teal spandex. The trim along the top is the same trim I used on my bodice and is mostly hand sewn on.
I have a tutorial for the bodice here: http://www.rynncosplay.com/tips.html
The sword started off as a wooden practice sword from Amazon for $13, which I built up using paperclay, craft foam, resin, scrapbook paper, and super glaze. I don't have access to or room for power tools so I had to work with what I had!
Wearing the costume with the rest of my Madoka group was a great reminder of how much fun I can have when I cosplay from a series that I really love. I put a lot of work into this costume and I hope it shows because I'm going to wear this sucker again and again. I CAN'T BE STOPPED! - Personal Thoughts:
- Sayaka is my favorite anime character - she is so beautifully complex and I love her for it. She's doesn't fall into an "anime girl" stereotype - she's sarcastic yet serious, strong and weak, selfless yet selfish. When she's happy she's ~HAPPY~ and when she's sad..well..
