About this Costume
- Construction Details:
-
Purchased everything, styled the wig, marathoned lots of Who to get the attitude down. Easy peasy!
- Personal Thoughts:
- So, I'm a Who nerd now. Whovian? My friends started cosplaying Doctor Who, and I narrowed down the companions to Rose, and further to first season Rose since my husband opted to cosplay the ninth Doctor. I think this outfit is fairly iconic, what with her poofy hair and Union Jack shirt.
The jacket is the screen accurate style, but not quite the right color. A friend in the UK helped me get it. Nothing else is screen accurate, but I did the best I could with a Union Jack tee, jeans and boots. I think next time I'll go even bolder with the eye makeup, since Rose rocks a lot of eyeliner. Anyways, I was super excited to meet a Doctor, Paul McGann, while wearing this, and had a lot of fun meeting other Who fans at the con.
...except the person who thought I was femme England...
Wig Details
- How was the wig colored?
- Sharpie roots
- Styling Notes
- I used a black sharpie for the roots (brown tends to photograph too red), and blended them in with cotton swabs and rubbing alcohol. Then I clipped up the front and trimmed a few short pieces.
- Wig Review
- I bought this from j.garcia315 on ebay. This was my first time wearing a lace front wig, and took some trial and error. I feel like it photographs well, but in person the lace was just a little too dark. I left it a little wavier and blonder so I can use it again for other costumes. If I keep cosplaying Rose I may invest in a more natural looking wig, but overall I'm happy with it. The cap is a bit small for my head, so it's not the most comfortable to wear.
